Day 1: Darwin Croc Tour - Adelaide River

Come along and join us for one of Darwin’s most iconic tourist attractions… a half-day Jumping Croc Cruise on the Adelaide River, where you can get up close and personal with some of the world’s most dangerous and aggressive predators out in the wild.

Departing Darwin city, we travel southeast together approximately 60km towards the Marrakai wetlands, home to over 280 different types of native birds and 117 different species of reptiles, including the infamous apex beast of prey, saltwater crocodiles.

Australia’s Top End is home to over 100,000 saltwater crocodiles located predominantly in and around Darwin, Mary River and the Adelaide River region, so you’re guaranteed to see plenty of magnificent creatures throughout the day in the Northern Territory’s naturally occurring waterways.

The saltwater crocodile is the largest reptile in the world and one of the oldest living creatures to walk the planet since the dinosaur age. These prehistoric beasts can grow up to 6 metres long (equivalent to a small bus) and weigh as much as 1000kg! An infamous local crocodile, affectionately nicknamed ‘Sweetheart’, was captured close to the Adelaide River after repeatedly chewing motors off the back of fisherman’s boats and stealing cows from the local farmers. Unfortunately, Sweetheart passed away in 1979 but has been taxidermied and preserved in the Darwin Museum.

Our staff are issued Wildlife Permits by National Parks and Wildlife to ensure that no animals are harmed during our interactions with the wildlife.

  1. My partner and I did jumping croc tours, and it was a chance to experience a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The jumping croc tour takes you on an adventure through some of the Northern Territory’s most beautiful remote outback locations. The croc tour guide shares stories about local wildlife and Aboriginal culture if you travel along. That was a crazy day with a high level of adrenaline and impression. Unbelievable experience

  2. That was amazing trip Croc Tours Darwin. I had an unforgettable experience with Wildlife Darwin Tours, which specializes in crocodile tours throughout Darwin. From the moment we arrived at the Adelaide River cruise terminal, our guide was very helpful and knowledgeable about the area and wildlife that can be found there. The tour began with a breathtaking scenic boat ride up Adelaide River where we encountered a variety of unique and interesting animals, from freshwater crocodiles to magpie geese. Our guide provided us with detailed information about each species, which made the tour even more enjoyable.
The highlight of the tour for me was the opportunity to get up close and personal with some of the Adelaide River’s crocs on a smaller boat equipped with a giant stick specifically designed for feed the crocs next our vessel. Seeing these prehistoric creatures in their natural habitat was a once-in-a-lifetime experience and I highly recommend Adelaide River Croc Tours to anyone looking for an exciting, educational tour in Darwin.
