Great Ocean Road Tour Itinerary
The Great Ocean Road is Victoria’s famous must-do road trip. One day we will show you the beauty of this coastal drive and take you through pristine beaches, fresh rainforest and rugged limestone rock formations.
Be wowed by the 12 Apostles – these iconic rock formations lie just off the shore of Port Campbell National Park in Victoria. Get lost in the beauty of this natural scenery and allow our guides to regale you with the stories and history that shapes this epic coastline.
Depart Melbourne
Once we have left Melbourne, we head down to the Surf Coast, passing through gorgeous seaside townships such as Anglesea, Lorne and Airey’s Inlet. We stop along the way for some morning tea and to breathe in the fresh sea air whilst spotting surfers out on the water. Given the proximity to Antarctica, you will learn why this is great surf and why wet suits are necessary!
The Great Ocean Road Memorial Arch
Stop at the Great Ocean Road monument, which marks the original starting point of the Great Ocean Road. After some photos at the iconic Memorial Arch and a lesson on the history of the soldiers who built this road and dedicated it to their fallen comrades, we will wind through more stunning views (of course, stopping for pictures!)
Search for Wild Koalas and Native Birds
Along the journey, we will be making stops to look for Koalas on the Great Ocean Road, hanging out in the wild. As they are wild, we cannot guarantee where they will show up, but our knowledgeable guides know all the best spots to get out into the bush and spot them sleeping!
Stop to Enjoy Lunch in Apollo Bay
A welcome lunch break is taken in Apollo Bay (approximately 45 minutes – at guests’ own expense). Once you have explored Apollo Bay, grabbed any souvenirs you wish to buy, or tasted some delicious ice cream, then it is back on the bus to the Great Otway National Park inland.
Guided Rainforest walk in the Great Otway National Park
Still on the Great Ocean Road but now continuing up into the lush green hills of the Great Otway National Park. Drive past towering Eucalyptus trees until we arrive at a patch of Cool, Temperate Rainforest. You will be amazed at the difference in the scenery as we take a walk through the tree ferns and marvel at the ‘ancient relics’ Myrtle Beach trees. These provide perfect canopy shade and originate from when Australia was part of a supercontinent known as Gondwanaland. Breathe in the fresh air before we take a relaxing drive out to the dramatic Shipwreck Coast!
The Twelve Apostles
Once out of the trees and back by the Southern Ocean, we arrive in Port Campbell National Park, home to the iconic 12 Apostles. We will spend about 40 minutes at the Apostles, where you will enjoy free time to take in the views from every angle, walk along the boardwalks, and get the perfect pictures of this wild and rugged coastline.
Loch Ard Gorge and the Shipwreck Coast
Also, in the National Park, we head down to Loch Ard Gorge, the site of one of Australia’s most well know shipwrecks, hear the dramatic tale of Tom and Eva and then head down to the beach to look for the caves. This is also where you will find rock formations such as Island Archway, Razorback, and the ‘Salt and Pepper Shakers too.
Great Ocean Road Tour returns to Melbourne
After a full day of exploring, we say goodbye to the Great Ocean Road and turn back inland to drive back to Melbourne via country roads. We pass through farmlands en route to the country town of Colac. Here, you can grab a quick bite for dinner (at the guests’ own expense) if you wish, as we will arrive back home in Melbourne at approximately 8:30 pm.

Terrific sunset at the Great Ocean Road, a little chilly this time of year though
We loved our first stop at the Great Ocean Road Chocolate store with lovely samples and cafe. The Great Ocean Road Tour was fantastic and we loved watching the sunset at the 12 Apostles.
In spite of the fact that our day encountered a few raindrops and wind, the coastline is great and dazzling. Seeing the 12 Apostles was shockingly better than the photos. Our guide, Grant, gave us a lot of time at each spot en route and gave us dynamite data. I would profoundly suggest everybody going by the region do this visit.
Incredible outing and magnificent guide. My lone thump is that the day was long with numerous extensive van stays, and little shoreline time. I would likely skirt the primary stop with the flying creatures and get to the Ocean Road as fast as conceivable where you have marvelous perspectives and potential shorelines to stop at. Additionally consider the turn around course which would get you to the Apostles on the prior side, possibly before the thousands dive toward the evening. The shoreline at end where the ship was destroyed is the feature of the day. Wish we could have remained longer there.
Extraordinary trek, Twelve Apostles were exceptional. Be set up for a difficult day – 14 hours, secured 430 km’s however well justified, despite all the trouble. .Additionally got the opportunity to see Koala bears and encourage beautiful parrots at a trailer stop. Certainly justified regardless of the cost of the trek. Just drawback was the climate, blustery and dim early in the day for the drive up the drift.
This was one of our most loved things we did while in Australia. The penguins were so charming, we had parcels additional time than different visits to look as they came up the shoreline. Our guide gave the best exhortation about when and how to see the penguins.
An fantastic day trip from Melbourne…a bit too short since there are so many spectacular places to see..the 12 Apostles lookout is magnificent. Also we stopped to othe 2 lookouts on Great Ocean Road: Gibson steps and Loch Ard Gorge. The 30 min Rainforest walk Was also great and the stop to Kennett River was a big surprise to see the King parrots and koala . The guide was very knowledgeable and a good entertainer…highly recommended to anyone traveling in that area.
